designing Collectorium
The Idea
It all began with the idea to make a website for people like me who struggle to keep track of tasks and organize themselves. So I set out to make an app with an easy to follow interface for tracking collections of lists. Whether its a do do list, shopping list, etc. There was many rounds of reinvention and redoing everything to get it right after comments from colleagues and friends. I am fairly pleased with the final result as its simple nature makes it easy to understand and non-intimidating for first time users.
the Kickoff
the problem statement
From the above information we I was able to create the following problem statement as our guiding light on how to design the website.
People who collect items—such as books, cards, memorabilia, art, or hobby materials—often struggle to keep track of what they own, where items are located, and the overall value or completeness of their collections. Existing solutions are frequently fragmented, overly manual, or not tailored to the specific needs of collectors, leading to lost items, accidental duplicates, and difficulty sharing or managing their collections over time. The goal is to design an intuitive, customizable app that allows users to easily catalog, organize, search, and monitor their collections from a single, user-friendly interface—helping them stay organized, reduce effort, and enjoy their collecting experience more fully.
